Reflection on Camera Work

It has been a while since my last post on this site. Despite that I will just continue on, beginning with a reflection on camera work my group and I have utilized since my last post. We have done two projects since then: a camera movement project and a camera shot/angle project. Both projects I had a good amount fun in making and I am happy to share what I learned.

Learning camera work was a pretty straightforward process, our teacher Mrs. Acosta went over the different camera movements and angles through PowerPoints, videos, and notes. They all were simple in theory, but they are used in films can definitely set the kind of vibes the scene is attempting to portray. Our class watched a video that did a breakdown of different camera movements in the movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we then had to guess which camera movements were used before it gave us a breakdown. It was honestly quite interesting with how directors would combine multiple movements at one time to elevate the scene.

Our first project was one about camera movements, we had to create a skit using a specific set of camera movements. Before we could record, we had to storyboard the skit and state what movements we wanted to use and when to use them. Once that was completed and approved, my group and I began the recording process. We had issues recording as we struggled to figure out how we wanted to be able to fit certain ideas into the video. Despite this, we still managed to successfully complete the project and submit it. I definitely learned about how to plan/storyboard a bit better.

The second project was the one we just recently completed. It involved creating a story around an inanimate object. We chose to use a glue stick that we called "El" who went on a journey of finding himself and understanding his origin. The storyboarding for this was fairly straightforward but we struggled to not reuse multiple camera shots/angles. Eventually we managed to finish our shots, and we had to upload them into a ppt and describe the purpose of each shot. Taught me to always be prepared, since my group was not at school at the day we had to finish the project, I could not remember all the shots we took so I was not able to finish it on my own, nor did I have any of their phone numbers so that was mistake number two.

Overall, I want to have any storyboard made to be shared with all of us, so we can still continue the work if one of us are absent. Also, I want a group chat between us to communicate ideas and help each other with work not finished in class.

My First Post

I am currently a senior in high school, and a hobby of mine is cooking/baking (mainly cinnamon rolls). So far, I have enjoyed being in Media Studies even though I never selected to join the class, despite this I still managed to have fun and actually find an interest in the subject. Luckily, I have someone I know of in this class because if not, I'm not even sure if I would have stayed. Through making my portfolio I hope to gain more creativeness in the way I go about creating/working on projects or ideas. I am mainly considering the film introduction, primarily because my group and I have a really good idea that we want to express. Sure, doing a magazine is nice, but it feels a bit "bland" to me at least.

- I honestly would not even mind making a film on cinnamon rolls!

Project Proposal

Ello, I am Jaiden Charles and below is my project proposal for media studies. I actually didn't plan on taking this class, but I h...
